Ukrainian Day Advocacy Event - Save the Date

Print PDF

Dear Friends of Ukraine,

SAVE THE DATE for this year's third “Ukrainian Day” advocacy event on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.  This is a very important year for the community as we focus on Ukraine's security challenges, the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia, and necessary reforms for Ukraine's full integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions.  Our goal is to seek support for Ukraine's immediate needs - military assistance; continued sanctions against Russia; and, support for Ukraine's reform efforts.

The highlight of the “Ukrainian Day” advocacy event will include a gala evening congressional reception commemorating UNIS’ 40th anniversary. Founded during the height of the Cold War in 1977, UNIS has been instrumental in advocating the community’s concerns for four decades. Its unwavering commitment in bringing about independence for Ukraine and, since 1991 enhancing the bilateral relations between Ukraine and the United States, has earned it much respect throughout Washington.

PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BE REPRESENTED IN WASHINGTON FOR THISMOMENTOUS ADVOCACY EVENT!

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact UNIS at 202 547-0018, or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Looking forward to seeing you in Washington in October!

RUSSIAN SANCTIONS ARE HERE TO STAY

Print PDF

New York (UCCA) – On August 2, 2017, President Trump signed into law the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act or CAATSA (H.R. 3364), codifying into law all existing sanctions imposed on Russia for its illegal annexation of Crimea and its military invasion of Ukraine. Several weeks prior, CAATSA had been passed by both Houses of Congress by an overwhelming and veto-proof majority – 98-2 in the Senate and 419-3 in the House – conveying the strong, bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States.  As the first major piece of legislation of this Administration, this bill will further punish Moscow for its “significant” cyber attack and influence campaign during the 2016 presidential election, increase US sanctions on Iran, require the Administration report to Congress on Iran’s collaboration with North Korea, and authorizes the expansion of existing US sanctions against all three countries, including their potential applicability to non-US firms.
